Our commitment to accessibility
We want Futureative summits to be as accessible as possible to everyone who wants to take part. Here's what we currently offer, where the limitations sit, and how to get in touch if you need additional support.
Where we run our summits
Our summits are delivered through HeySummit, a platform that's partially conformant with WCAG 2.0 Level AA. Partially conformant means some parts of the platform meet that accessibility standard and some parts don't yet. HeySummit is continuing to improve in this area, and we'll surface those improvements as they become available.
You can read HeySummit's full accessibility statement on their help centre for the most current detail on what's supported.
Video player accessibility
Session videos themselves are delivered through a video player with its own accessibility features, including closed captions, embedded transcripts, full keyboard navigation, screen reader compatibility, and adjustable playback speed. For the full breakdown and keyboard shortcuts, see our article on video player accessibility features.
Other features that may help
Beyond the video player, you may also have access to:
- Compatibility with assistive technologies across the wider platform, including screen readers
- Keyboard navigation across most parts of the platform
- Mobile access, so you can attend on whatever device works best for you
We can't guarantee every feature works perfectly in every situation, particularly because some elements depend on speaker-provided content. If something isn't working as expected, let us know.
Known limitations
A few things worth flagging honestly:
- Session videos may not always have human-prepared captions or audio descriptions. Automated captions are available through the video player, but their accuracy can vary.
- Some legacy parts of the platform may not pass colour contrast guidelines or be fully optimised for keyboard navigation.
- Some forms and interactive elements may not behave consistently with assistive technologies.
We don't list these to lower expectations; we list them so you know what you're walking into and can flag specific issues to us.
If you need additional support
We're a small team, so we can't always implement custom accommodations on short notice, but we genuinely want to hear from you if accessibility is a barrier to taking part.
- If there's something specific that would help you engage with the summit, email hello@futureative.com and describe what you need. We'll do what we can within our capacity and within what the platform allows.
- If you've spotted an accessibility issue or have suggestions for how we could improve, we'd like to hear that too. Your feedback shapes how future summits are run.
We try to respond to accessibility-related messages promptly. Reach us at hello@futureative.com.
Our ongoing commitment
Accessibility isn't a feature we ship once. It's something we keep working on alongside the platform, the speakers we work with, and the materials we create. We won't always get it right, and we'd rather be honest about that than overpromise. Where we can do better, we want to know.
